Not having heard something is not as good as having heard it; having heard it is not as good as having seen it; having seen it is not as good as knowing it; knowing it is not as good as putting it into practice.
— Xunzi, Chinese Confucian philosopher

I love to learn. There are hundreds of subjects that interest me immensely, and learning the way the world works, in general, has always fascinated me. I've tried to make a habit of learning everything I can from every situation, every book, every person, as I possibly can. Whether that means learning a hard lesson from a mistake I made, learning about how an ancient culture lived so that can inform the novels I write, or just learning how a specific person thinks about a topic so that I can understand them more fully. And that's why, during these years I'm attending college, I'm going to try my hardest to make the most of every moment. I'm going to attempt to learn everything I can, not just about the subjects being taught, but about the people I'm around, the situations I'm thrust into, and the lessons God is teaching me along the way.

And most importantly, I want to not only hear these things, see these things, and know these things, but I want to be able to put them into practice, to act on them. And Lord willing, that's what I'll do.

Here goes nothing.
